Footer Slideup Form is one of the best ways to ask your user to subscribe to your list without any interruption or blocking and this plugin does exactly that. It adds an FeedBurner subscribe sliding form in the footer of your Wordpress blog.

Installation Instructions

Please Follow the exact Steps to install and activate this plugin.

1. Activate Email Subscription for your Feed in Feedburner.
2. Grab the HTML code of your HTML Form and Search for uri=SomeString. SomeString is your unique identifier for your Feedburner feed.
3. Upload the plugin folder feedburner-footer-slideup at wp-content/plugins.
4. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress
5. Edit Options under the Menu 'Feedburner Footer SlideUp'. Paste the FeedBurner URI String generated in Step 2.

Are you using your readers un-subscription to your advantage? If no then it is not too late to act now. Start getting feedback from them as to how you could have kept them away from going off.

We all know AWeber is not the only autoresponder and so many wanted me to have a plugin for general use and it can be done in future but as of now based on reader's demand I have created similar plugin for GetResponse - GetResponse Footer Slideup Form

I personally do not use GetResponse on my blogs but they offers a free trial account to start with which has helped me immensely to develop this plugin. 5. Edit Options under the Menu 'GetResponse Footer SlideUp'. Paste the hidden form HTML Code generated in Step 2. Remember not to include the custom_http_referer hidden field from HTML code

What is Tracking Image URL of AWeber Webform (Optional)?

AWeber RAW HTML Webform tracks the form views and other stats with an image. If you would like to see how many users submit using the footer form you need to add the unique image url of AWeber into the field value. Just near the form end tag you will see <img src="SomeValue" border="0" />. Just copy the SomeValue from the HTML code and past it in Tracking Image URL of AWeber Webform. The Image URL will not be any normal jpg/gif like image.

Although emails from AWeber are already whitelisted on an ISP level, emails may be filtered on an individual level. So it is very important to make your readers understand what to expect with the subscription and make sure you get place in your readers' inbox in a folder which he checks regularly.

First impression is the last impression and according to me the best way to ask your readers' to whitelist you is to do that in the welcome email. Well written welcome email should always make the life of your reader easy by giving him some good call to actions which can benefit both the reader and the sender.

Apart from the welcome email other places to make your request to whitelist you.

• In a thank-you page just after the user has hit the submit button. You need to use a custom thank-you page in AWeber for this to work.
• A line at the end of each email might even work for you - especially if you include other interesting content in the broadcast.

Newsletter Readers in Feedburner

Newsletter Readers in AWeber

Not to mention AWeber counter also includes the new people who have subscribed.

It was never easy for me to take that decision but I realized that more I delay in taking that decision I will loose more subscribers because any reputable service require you to get users to opt into them – even though you’ve already done this previously.

I’d like to ask readers who they use to deliver their email newsletters? I have always preferred AWeber over their competitors.

So what did I do differently from March 27th onwards for such a wonderful growth of user subscriptions to my AWeber list?

Go4Expert.com is very high traffic forum and so I always had decent user sign-ups but like any other webmaster I am always open to experimenting things. I did lot of experimentation of integrating AWeber with and without registration but the increase in subscription you see in the above image is for putting an AWeber lightbox for guest's users.

If you are also concerned like me about your user may not like it you can use it the way I do it. Display it only once for the user in his entire lifetime unless he uses second browser or clears his cookies.

Are you making the same mistake which I did of not having AWeber on Go4Expert for quite some time?

Do these websites actually register users?

I don't think so. The reason I say No is because I hardly see the site owners and admin hardly uses my email to generate any user based activity apart from on my birthday I get an email from all those forums where I am registered and vBulletin sends that automatically. Nothing for rest of the year.

So in my opinion these websites ask users to register for the sake stopping spam. Are you doing the same mistake or you want your user to be a part of your community.

Things to include in your Welcome Email

1. Be Human - If you have a welcome email already setup with some default content edit it. Welcome your user with a humanly and more customized email. This is the first impression to your user about your website.
2. Thanks Note - I always prefer to start my welcome email with a thanks note.

3. Request to whitelist your email address - I think having this really helps in more than one way.

   Apart from white-listing your email address he can also create automatic filters for all emails from your site.

4. Build an expectation - The next thing I prefer is to make user clear about what is coming and when. Go4Expert is a monthly newsletter and so I clearly state when he can expect the newsletter i.e. on second week of every month. This again helps me in more than one way.  Even if user subscribes to your list on a day just before you send your newsletter he will not think that he is getting too many emails.
5. Address your strong points - Last but most important part of any welcome email is to redirect users to other areas of your website. Any user who lands up on some internal page  is not expected to know all about what you have on your website and if you can redirect him to best part of your site he may easily convert from lurker to an active reader.

This was not the case with me at Go4Expert.com because I send AWeber confirmation email as an invite for subscribing to newsletter but that may not be the case with everyone and so here I have a solution for double email confirmation of AWeber & vBulletin.

Let us begin...

Step 1: Stop vBulletin to send email confirmation

Assuming you have email confirmation ON in vBulletin forum you need to stop the email that is sent through the vBulletin system.

Open your register.php file in your forums directory and find the following.

And comment out the following line

vbmail($email, $subject, $message, true);

Step 2: Configure AWeber to send user data to thank you page

We have stopped the confirmation email to be sent from vBulletin.  Next thing we should do is configure AWeber to pass user data to our thank you page.

Go to your AWeber list Settings page and provide thank you page URL and check on the box which says "Pass subscriber info". This way we can get user data on our thank you page where we will confirm the user in vBulletin.

Step 3: Your thank you page to confirm user

Upload thankyou.php into your forums root directory which will confirm the user when user clicks on the confirm link in AWeber. This has been tested to work with vBulletin 3.7+

Step 4: Hide some un-functional options in registration (Optional)

Optionally you may want to hide the option of "Receive Email from Admin" so user may not un-check that. If he un-checks it will have no effect in AWeber and so it is better to hide such options which can confuse the user.

Future improvements

This is not just a plain plug-in but it needs a single line of change in code in core vBulletin file "register.php".
